Walkers urged to put their best foot forward in support of Appeal

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Those who enjoy walking are being urged to put their best foot forward in aid of a good cause. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is planning a series of organised walks on the railway line from Goathland station, to the site of Bridge 30, on Sunday 8 November. The aim is to raise much needed funds for the Bridge & Wheels Appeal, which aims to raise £1m to fund a bridge renewal and restoration of an historic steam engine. The walk is about half a mile distance. Bridge 30 is located just north of Goathland, in the direction of Grosmont. Trains won’t be running on this stretch of line on 8 November, so it will give the public a unique perspective on the Moors and the Railway. They will see the 145 year old bridge, which has served the Railway well, but which is due to be removed over the winter period and replaced with a new structure. Anyone in good health and over the age of 10 can participate. Escorted tours are being planned to depart from Goathland Station on the hour, departing 10am, 11am, 12 noon and 1pm. For the privilege of seeing the Railway in a different light, participants are asked to make a £5 donation to the Bridge & Wheels Appeal. Advance booking is recommended.
